WORLD Economic Forum's Future of Jobs Report 2023 has predicted that in the coming five years, nearly a quarter of job roles are expected to change. Out of the 23 per cent, 10.2 per cent will grow, and 12.3 will witness a decline. This decline can be partly attributed to emerging technologies like artificial intelligence.

Over three-fourths of the 800+ companies examined look forward to using big data, cloud technologies and artificial intelligence in the next five years. This can lead to negative consequences on certain job roles that can be replaced by automation and newer technologies.

To give you an idea, here is a list of the fastest declining job roles, according to the report.

Bank Tellers and Related Clerks - With the onset of online banking infrastructure, these roles could dip as most of the capabilities are now app based.

Postal Service Clerks - With the coming of email, postal communication is limited to item shipping now.

Cashiers and ticket Clerks - The role may witness a decline because of ticker vending and online bookings.

Data Entry Clerks - With newer tech, it is now easy to feed data into tables via automation and codes.

Administrative and Executive Secretaries - As we move to newer technologies, sorting daily tasks is becoming less complicated. As a result, wiping away the need for a second person.

Material-Recording and Stock-Keeping Clerks - These roles could decline mainly because of the digitization of records and system tracking.

Accounting, Bookkeeping and Payroll Clerks - As more accounting software emerges, these roles are expected to witness a slump.

Legislators and Officials - Tech experts have been lauding AI's summarisation capabilities, which hints at a decline in these roles.

Statistical, Finance and Insurance Clerks - Several reports have highlighted the analytical capabilities of the AI tech.

Door-To-Door Sales Workers, News and Street Vendors, and Related Workers - As news outlets and e-commerce giants move online, these roles will likely witness a decline.

"In terms of highest absolute job losses, data clerks fare the worst, with an expected 8 million job losses within five years, followed by administrative and executive secretaries, and accounting, bookkeeping and patrol clerks. These three occupations combined account for more than half of the total expected job destruction," the Future of Jobs Report 2023 adds.
