Amazon is making one of the biggest leaps in blending AI with music, integrating Alexa Plus into the Amazon Music iOS and Android application, bringing conversational, generative AI directly into the streaming experience and giving users a more intuitive, interactive way to discover and enjoy music.

For the time being, this feature is accessible only for those signed up to the Alexa Plus Early Access programme; Amazon says it will open up access to more listeners over the coming months but doesn't give a timeline for this. Notably, Alexa Plus—and by extension, this new experience—is not available in India yet.

Smarter Conversations About Music

Alexa Plus is designed for natural conversations, unlike the command-based Alexa of old. Users can ask complex or follow-up questions, such as “Play pop songs from the ’90s but skip boy bands” or “Suggest some modern jazz for a dinner party.” It's designed to feel more like talking with a friend who knows your music taste inside out.

That AI also identifies songs with minimal clues, even just some lyrics or references to movie scenes, and then goes on to immediately give additional information, like artist bios, song meanings, or even important discography highlights.

Tailored playlists, along with deeper insights

Alexa Plus will automatically generate playlists for you based on mood, era, and even event. It can talk about the inspiration behind a track, trace its sample origins, and share trivia such as chart positions or festival appearances by artists.

Alexa Plus is available for Early Access users to try now by updating to the latest version of the Amazon Music app and tapping on the “a” button in the lower-right corner.

Expanding Alexa Plus to New Echo Devices

Amazon has also introduced four new Alexa Plus-powered Echo devices, including Echo Dot Max, Echo Studio, Echo Show 8, and Echo Show 11. Buyers of these new models will automatically get early access to Alexa Plus. While some of the devices are already available in certain global markets, others will begin rolling out on November 12. However, Amazon hasn't confirmed its availability for Indian users yet.
