JE Technology Desk: Amazon has launched a new cheaper alternative - Amazon Prime Lite for customers in India in its Prime subscription catalogue. Unlike regular prime plans that come with one and three months options, this new subscription sports a validity of one year. The aim is to garner more consumers in the country for a longer period of time at a lesser cost. To subscribe to Amazon Prime Lite, a user will have to shell out Rs 999. Amazon has cut corners in some exclusive benefits to bring the price down.
Compared to the regular annual Amazon Prime plan that costs Rs 1,499, this subscription lets users retain Rs 500 in their pocket. If you plan to get this plan, here are the bundled benefits and offers.
Amazon Prime Lite Benefits
All members of Prime Lite are eligible for free two-day delivery and standard delivery. The plan also offers "free No-Rush Shipping to eligible addresses" and Rs 25 cashback. Morning Delivery to eligible addresses is chargeable at Rs 175 per item. No minimum order value for free standard delivery is also a bundled benefit of the plan.
If you own an Amazon Prime ICICI Bank Credit Card, you can avail of five per cent cashback on shopping. But, "Digital and Gift Card purchases" are exempted as they already earn two per cent in addition to rewards everywhere else you shop.
Amazon Prime Video with ads - A buyer can enjoy unlimited movies, Amazon originals, Live sports, and TV shows streaming across two devices in 'HD' quality. But the catch is - a buyer will experience ads during watching. The plan offers early access to Lighting Deals on the platform besides Exclusive Lighting Deals and Deals of the Day.
Missing Benefits
The company has trimmed the plan to cancel shipping benefits such as one-day delivery, same-day delivery, and costlier morning delivery compared to Prime members. Amazon Prime Lite also does not offer Prime Reading and Amazon Music. Moreover, Prime Video benefits of up to 4K picture quality, ad-free viewing and more are not bundled in the new plan. The regular offering also packs benefits such as No Cost EMI for smartphone purchases and six months of Free Screen Replacement. Lastly, it comes with Amazon Family and Gaming offers, which are missing on the Lite alternative.
According to MySmartPrice, Amazon Prime Lite was first released to select beta users and is now live for all customers in India. For context on Non-Lite plans, the Monthly Prime and Quarterly Prime subscription plan starts from Rs 299 and Rs 599.
