Ambrane PowerLit 45 Power Bank Review: Ambrane launched its Powerlit 45 Power Bank in April this year in India. This 15,000mAh offering supports 45W charging across diverse devices. Beyond smartphones, smartwatches, TWS and more pocket-sized gadgets, Ambrane has advertised it can charge your laptops.

To find out how the device performs in real life, Ambrane shipped us the device a few weeks back. I have been using the power bank for quite some time now and here is my review.

Design and Build:

The power bank ships with a high-quality braided USB Type-C-to-C fast charging cable. It is available in black and green colours and has a polycarbonate build. It is relatively thicker (but has lesser height) than the traditional power banks you see in the market. But this makes it easier to grip in the hands or fit in the pocket. The 'Ambrane' branding sits on the front with a power button at the top.

Four white LED indicators display the remaining charge capacity of the 15,000mAh polymer battery. While on power, one LED turns green if PD, QC or fast charging is active. At the top, two USB-C ports (with up to 45W output) and a USB A port (with up to 18W charging) sit on the device. In all, the power bank feels solid and sturdy in the hands.

Charging Performance:

The good part is you don't need to press the power button to start charging. The power bank detects connected devices and starts charging them automatically. One of the indicators turns green when a gadget supports fast charging. I used the BIS-certified unit across several devices to test its potential.

On a Xiaomi phone (with a 4,500mAh battery) that supports 120W charging, the Powerlit 45 managed to charge it in about 45 minutes from 0 to 100. After this, I used it to recharge the Dell Latitude 3420 (with 54,000mWh battery design capacity) via its USB Type-C port. It managed to take the percentage to 76 from 20 before discharging completely.

While Powerlit 45 can fast charge smartphones, you may see a slow charging message on Windows laptops. (Image:JE)

Charging the power bank takes about 90 minutes with a Xiaomi HyperCharger. While it gets warm during use, it is not a significant concern. In a second use case with a full charge, it managed to top up the Dell device from 0 to 85 per cent before dying completely. However, the laptop displayed a slow charging error (screengrab above) because it supports up to 65W USB-C charging.

Ambrane recommends you should not charge any other device when a laptop is charging for best results. Based on my testing, I can verify that it can charge a 4,500mAh battery phone about two times with some juice left to top up in case of emergencies. Thirdly, it can charge a 3,000mAh battery phone with 33W charging support in about 75 minutes.

Hence, the results may vary for slower charging protocols in phones, smartwatches, TWS and other gadgets. As for notable features, it gets multi-layered chipset protection and smart power management technology for instances when multiple devices are connected.

According to Ambrane, it supports "Quick Charge (QC) 2.0/3.0, Power Delivery (PD) 2.0/3.0, PPS, AFC, Turbo Charge, FCP, Huawei Super-Fast Charge" and many more charging protocols across Samsung, Apple and more phones. When all ports are engaged, the total output drops to 20W (10W + 5W + 5W), leading to slower charging. The USB port can output up to 22W current when used individually.

Conclusion: Should You Buy Ambrane PowerLit 45?

From charging smartphones to laptops, the PowerLit 45 proves its worth as a reliable pocket buddy. It can be an excellent travel companion from air to roads. It is a fast powerhouse for charging your devices on the go. Priced at Rs 2,999, you can get the Ambrane Powerlit 45 from the brand's official site, Amazon and Flipkart. As for improvements, I craved 65W output and more warranty for extended assurance for customers.

Coming to the competition, the PoweLit 45 competes with offerings from URBN and Stuffcool, which can offer more battery capacity (20,000mAh), among other features (at a similar price). However, the competition lacks dual USB Type-C ports. Secondly, if you can live without fast charging and don't charge laptops on the go, you may check out other power banks that offer nearly double battery capacity but slower charging rates.
