Google's select Pixel flagships grabbed the limelight for a storage bug that affected users who updated to the latest Android 14-powered Pixel experience. The bug was primarily impacting owners who used multiple user profiles. Taking cognisance of the matter, Google conveyed via its support page that a fix shall be released in the "next two weeks" for the affected devices.

While the update is expected to move the smartphone back to its "operable state," this would not allow the restoration of the deleted data on these smartphones, the search leader added. While the stable update is yet to roll out, the company continues to work with the impacted audience via short-run fixes for help. The company shared two methods that can fix the flaws.

For the unaware, the bug is affecting the Pixel 6 and later handsets updated to Android 14 and those who use multiple profiles that include guests, restricted profiles, children and other user accounts. But, this does not impact users who add multiple Google accounts on their phones.

The storage bug may not allow users to access media files and prompts a "factory data reset" message. If accepted, the phone performs a clean wipe. However, if rejected, the phone enters a boot loop with "Pixel is starting" text.

"We're continuing to work on fixes for impacted devices, and have already pushed out a Google Play system update that will help prevent this issue from being triggered on additional devices," Google said. Until then, Pixel users are advised not to create or add a secondary account.
