Apple AI Pin: It looks like Apple is trying to create its presence in the AI wearables space, and it might be on the cusp of developing its very own AI pin, says a report from The Information. The report says that the tech giant could release the supposed AI pin by 2027. This release timeline might be strategic, as the AI Pin would then stand in competition with a mystery wearable that OpenAI is going to reveal later this year.
But the report also mentions that the development of the said wearable is in "very early stages" and Apple might even cancel the development of the AI pin altogether if the device does not meet the company's standards.
Apple has been eyeing the AI wearable space and wants to make its presence felt, as competitors like Google and Microsoft already have a head start in the market. Recently Apple also announced its partnership with Google, which will now help in powering Apple Intelligence and Siri with the latest advanced Gemini AI models. Simultaneously, Apple is also working on a complete makeover of Siri.
How Will The AI Pine Look Like?
The report has also shed light on how the AI Pin might look like, it describes it as a "thin, flat, circular disc with an aluminum-and-glass shell."
On its edges there will be a charging interface and one single button. The report indicates that the Apple pin will consist of two cameras, one wide-angle lens and a standard one, on the front of the pin. This is probably designed for capturing photos and videos of the environment around the user. As far as sound goes, a speaker and 3 microchips can be expected.
Making an AI pin is challenging, and looking at previous examples like the Humane Pin that did not hit the mark, after the company had spent millions of dollars and sold a meagre 10,000 units, it is clear that it is not easy. Will Apple learn from this experience? The tech giant is also expected to drop a foldable iPhone in September, according to rumours, and an AI PIN entry later could turn into something really interesting.
