iOS 18 Leaks: Cupertino-based tech giant Apple will likely introduce iOS 18 at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) next month. Starting June 10, the tech giant is said to join the AI race sparked by OpenAI's ChatGPT. In a series of leaks around the software, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has tipped that the company could bring AI tools and features for iOS 18 under its "Project Greymatter".
According to Gurman's latest 'Power On' edition, Safari, Photos and Notes will get AI enhancements under this strategy. Apple also plans to improve notifications on the OS with the next version. While processing for less complicated tasks will likely take place on-device, other resource-heavy operations may depend on the cloud.
The software (iOS 18 and macOS 15 in this case) could have capabilities to determine cloud and on-device operations based on the feature in use. These features will likely also be supported on iPhone, iPad and Mac devices running a 2023 Apple chip. Secondly, M2 Ultra will handle the cloud processing.

iOS 18 Features (Leaked)
According to Gurman, the software could pack features like voice memo transcription, AI-based photo retouching, faster and more reliable searches in Spotlight, improvements for Safari search and reply suggestions for emails and text messages. Apple's voice assistant Siri is said to get more "natural-sounding interactions" powered by Apple's AI large language models.
A more advanced version of Siri may allow on-the-go tasks on an Apple Watch. Besides users, developer tools like Xcode may also benefit from AI enhancements. As for added personalisation, Apple may also bring a feature to make emojis using generative AI based on user prompts.
Beyond AI, Apple could allow users to change the colours of app icons and let them place these icons anywhere on the home screen based on their convenience. A new "smart recaps" feature may allow users to access a summary of missed notifications, text messages, web links, news reports, notes, documents and more media.
Another surprising revelation Gurman made was the absence of an Apple-made AI chat model based on the latest hints. However, Apple may offer a chatbot powered by OpenAI ChatGPT, which could steal some limelight at WWDC. The iPhone maker may also introduce upgraded software for iPad, Apple Watch and Mac computers and laptops.
