Apple iOS 18: Apple is reportedly readying what could be the "biggest" iOS update in the history of iPhones, according to Apple staff cited by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman in previous reports. It is said to pack a range of AI features, and CEO Tim Cook has also given hints that the update will pack a host of AI features.

In a recent report, MacRumors claimed the design could be inspired by visionOS' translucent and glass-like elements. The company could introduce iOS 18 at the Worldwide Developers Conference on June 10. However, the rumour mill has already churned out massive details.

iOS 18 AI Features (Expectations)

The company could supercharge its popular apps with AI. Messages may get auto sentence completion, Apple Music could offer automatic playlist generation, Pages could get AI-aided writing, Xcode could get AI-based code generation and the brand's Siri voice assistant may witness AI capabilities via an LLM.

As for AI chats, the company may use the services of Google or OpenAI to power the experience globally (with some exceptions in China). Beyond AI, the company could bring a more "customisable" Home Screen. Plus, custom routes support and topographic maps of the watchOS 10 could debut on iOS 18 in Apple Maps.

Among other notable changes, the tech giant could bring Rich Communication Services (RCS) texting standard this year. Google accidentally dropped hints on when to expect RCS on iPhones. Secondly, the software may introduce a Hearing Aid Mode feature for AirPods Pro 2.

iOS 18 Supported Devices (Expectations)

Apart from the iPhone 16 series, the eligible devices for iOS 18 could include iPhone 15 series, iPhone 14 series, iPhone 13 series, iPhone 12 series, iPhone 11 series, iPhone XS (and XS Max), iPhone XR and iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd gen). While the software update may arrive for these phones, the company may limit powerful AI features to iPhone 16 (or only 16 Pro) models.

iOS 18 Release Date (Expectations)

The company could preview the upcoming software on June 10 at the WWDC 2024. It may released for developers soon after the announcement, and a public beta could arrive in July 2024. The stable build could follow in September 2024.
