The iPhone 15 series was launched by Apple at an event in September this year. It was received well by users as people queued up at the Apple store to get their hands on the new devices on the first day. And scammers are using the fanbase of the new handsets to dupe people. In a recent post on X, formerly called Twitter, PIB Fact Check, the fact-checking unit of the Press Information Bureau, shared an ongoing scam that claims India Post is offering an iPhone 15 as a Diwali gift.

According to the post on X, the lucky draw asks for information from users to reveal personal details and promises an iPhone 15 as a gift. The X handle added that this is a fraud and is not associated with India Post.

"A bogus lucky draw allegedly from @IndiaPostOffice is luring people into providing their personal information with the promise of winning an iPhone 15. It is a scam and is not related to India Post. Be cautious! Refrain from clicking on such suspicious links," @PIBFactCheck posted.

From the screenshot, it can be inferred that scammers aim to collect details of users through a questionnaire. The text in the scam message read:" You have a chance to win a gift. Please click the 'Claim Gift' button to continue." A user should not click on the button or any suspicious links that promise gifts, including an iPhone.

For the unversed, this scam is a relatively old one. It has been planted in different contexts and several festivals. The core purpose of the fraud remains the same. Plus, scammers also ask users to share the link of the scam site in five WhatsApp (or other instant messaging app) groups or to 20 people to be eligible for the gift. However, a reader must not share such details and report the source link if you receive them from an unknown or suspicious contact.
