iPhone 16 Pro Leaks: Cupertino-based tech giant Apple will likely launch the iPhone 16 series this year in September. Ahead of a possible launch, a new report from DIGITIMES Asia claims the iPhone 16 Pro could sport a tetraprism periscope lens that may offer 5X optical zoom capabilities. For context, these zoom capabilities first debuted on the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Citing the news outlet, MacRumors reported the Taiwanese lens makers Largan Precision and GSEO (Genius Electronic Optical) could be the supplier for the tetraprism lens. Both manufacturers are reportedly gearing up for production concerning the upcoming release. Adam Lin, chairman of Largan, anticipates peak sales in the optical components sector between September and November.

The schedule could align with the launch of the iPhone 16 Pro lineup. Lenses of GSEO are reportedly undergoing validation. If the periscope lens passes the tests, the mass production of the lens could start in mid-July 2024. Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Pro Max offers 5X optical zoom and up to 25X digital zoom.

According to Forbes, the disparity between the zoom capabilities of the current 'Pro' models existed due to the smaller size of the iPhone 15 Pro. The iPhone 16 Pro (and Pro Max) is expected to get a size increase. This could be the reason for the new addition. Meanwhile, reports in the past have also leaked more details about the camera of the iPhone 16 Pro.

Apple iPhone 16 Pro could get an upgraded 48MP ultrawide lens. The lenses could also have an anti-reflective optical coating for reducing lens flare and improving results. MacRumors anticipates the device could cost the same as the iPhone 15 Pro's launch price. For context, the iPhone 15 Pro launched at a starting price of Rs 1,34,900. Meanwhile, we can expect the lineup to debut in mid-September this year.
