Apple is gearing up for its March 4 event, where new MacBooks and the iPhone 17e are rumoured to make an appearance, but attention is already turning towards the smartphone lineup. According to a new report, Apple is testing new colour options for its iPhone 18 Pro series. The tech industry insiders also speculated that the firm could unveil another courageous new crimson hue, making it the cornerstone colour associated with the brand's flagship handsets it will be releasing later in 2026.
Apple Prototypes New iPhone 18 Pro in a Bright Red Colour
According to his recent Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman discussed that Apple is reportedly testing a deep red colour variant for the iPhone 18 Pro series. It reportedly has a deeper and more vivid shade compared to any red shades offered previously, but the colour is expected to be revealed as the signature hue of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models.
And, Gurman said, Apple is likely to maintain the popular Cosmic Orange finish in addition to re-equipping red as a new premium colour rather than removing existing ones.
Colour Strategy for iPhone Fold
Although the iPhone 18 Pro models are poised to gain a bolder aesthetic, Apple seems to be adopting a more reserved stance on its first foldable iPhone. The long-awaited iPhone Fold, rumoured to launch alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series in September, reportedly will not feature any “fun” or colourful colours.
Rather, rumours suggest the foldable device will debut in understated hues like dark grey or black and white or silver, which would indicate a more conservative design direction for Apple’s first foldable smartphone.

What to Expect Next
Apple will likely reveal the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Fold in its customary September launch window. Though colour choices are still in a testing phase and have yet to be finalised, these early details give some insight into the evolution of Apple’s design language.
Assuming the report is correct, then Apple’s choice to add a deep red finish option for the iPhone 18 Pro will effectively update the visual identity of its flagship phone lineup while keeping popular classics such as Cosmic Orange. And the lack of raucous colours for the iPhone Fold hints at Apple putting moves to a premium, understated feel first on the menu for its first bendable product. As ever, the final details will be set in stone as launch approaches, but Apple’s colour strategy suggests some fine balancing between boldness and refinement in its next-generation flagship portfolio.
