iPhone Restrictions In China: Apple iPhones are popular across the globe for their feature set and secure software compared to other smartphone brands. However, more agencies and state-backed firms in China continue to direct their staff not to carry iPhones and other foreign gadgets at the workplace, citing sources, news outlet Bloomberg reported.

According to Reuters, the country has been working towards reducing dependence on foreign technologies and boosting indigenous infrastructure for over a decade. Directing banks to use local software and promoting semiconductor chip production are among the few initiatives.

Several state companies and departments in about eight provinces have asked their staff (in the last month or two) to use devices from local brands, the report noted. Smaller companies in Zhejiang, Liaoning, Shandong and central Hebei provinces, where the world's largest iPhone factory is situated, have issued oral directions, according to Bloomberg.

The extent of the ban and its nature of strictness remains unknown at the moment. On a related note, reports claimed that three ministries and government bodies were instructed to avoid using iPhones at work in September. However, Chinese officials denied the stance of banning iPhones in state agencies back then, 9To5Mac reported.

But, the officials highlighted the problems of "media exposure of security events" related to Apple smartphones. As for other updates around iPhones, the tech giant is reportedly planning to make around 50 million iPhones in the country in the upcoming years. This will constitute about 25 per cent share of the total production pie.

The company released the 'Made in India' iPhone 15 for buyers on the first day of sale in the country. Apple iPhone 15 series also constitutes the iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. It is currently available for purchase in India across leading online and offline channels.
