Apple, which is already in headlines for the alleged AI integration plans, is reportedly developing its own AI-powered chipset to run artificial intelligence software in data centres. This comes after a report by the Wall Street Journal citing its top sources stated that the new AI move has the potential to offer an upper hand in the ongoing race among the tech giants.

Apple has been dodging inquiries about its intentions for artificial intelligence (AI) as it has lagged behind its rivals in this area. CEO Tim Cook told Reuters in an interview "We continue to feel very bullish about our opportunity in generative AI and we're making significant investments."

According to the reports, the effort, internally known as effort ACDC (Apple Chips in Data Centre), intends to use Apple's experience in chip design for its server architecture. According to the publication, Project ACDC has been in the works for a number of years, but it is unclear when or if the project will be revealed.

According to the report, Apple's server chip's component will probably be more concerned with running AI models—also known as inference—than with training them.

Further, the report stated that the company has been closely collaborating with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. to create and start producing these chips, though it's unclear if this collaboration has produced a conclusive outcome for both businesses.
