Apple has formally revealed the changes to its browser and App Store that will go into effect in the EU in March by the Digital Markets Act. As such, the users will have some more control. The company issued a statement saying that by including additional controls, disclosures, and protections, the changes will lessen the privacy and security risks that users of the DMA may face.
Among the changes are over 600 new APIs, improved app analytics, compatibility for various browser engines, and options for managing in-app purchases and distributing iOS apps. With every update, Apple incorporates fresh security safeguards that mitigate, if not eliminate, the risks that the DMA poses to EU users. By taking these steps, Apple will continue to give EU users the best, safest experience possible.
Safari Changes
Apple is launching a new option screen that appears when users launch Safari for the first time in iOS 17.4 or later. EU users will be prompted to select their default browser from a list of options on that screen. Due to this modification brought about by the DMA's regulations, EU customers will now be presented with a selection of default browsers before they can even consider their options.
App Store Changes:
Apple has also announced some changes to the App Store as well.
1. New choices for using payment service providers (PSPs) within a developer's app to process payments for digital products and services are among the changes that affect developers.
2. New choices for link-out payment processing, which allows customers to finish a digital goods and services transaction on the developer's external website. Additionally, developers can notify
3. EU users of sales, discounts, and other offers that aren't exclusive to their apps.
Tools for business planning: these let developers calculate costs and comprehend KPIs related to Apple's new EU app terms.
4. New measures to safeguard and enlighten customers in the EU are also included in the updates. These include the following: product page labels on the App Store that alert users when an app they're installing utilises another payment processor.
Apple also revealed new streaming game choices that are available for developers' apps globally, in addition to over 50 upcoming reports covering topics such as app usage, engagement, commerce, and more.
