Apple is preparing a complete makeover of Siri, aiming to transform it into a true AI-powered assistant capable of rivalling Google’s Gemini. The company is currently developing a ChatGPT-style version of Siri that will bring advanced generative AI directly to its iPhones, making the assistant far more conversational and useful in real-world scenarios.
Until now, Apple has leaned on OpenAI’s ChatGPT to provide some AI-driven features. While functional, this approach is seen as less powerful compared to Google’s Gemini ecosystem. That reliance is about to change, as Apple is building its own large language model to serve as the foundation for Siri’s next chapter.

According to Bloomberg, the project is internally codenamed “Veritas”, which means “truth” in Latin. The new Siri is also being tested under the system codename “Linwood”. Where earlier iterations were sometimes restrictive, this update will allow Siri to process multiple conversations, answer follow-up questions, and execute more elaborate requests. Engineers at Apple are busy tuning the assistant through internal testing to both enhance response accuracy and the flow of conversation.
Rumours indicate Apple may release this new AI assistant as a preview at WWDC 2026, in advance of a public launch later in the year. The iPhone 18 series, set to arrive in 2026, is likely to come pre-installed with this new Siri.
Apple last introduced major Siri improvements with iOS 18, but this upgrade is expected to go much further. By moving away from third-party models like ChatGPT, Apple is setting Siri up as a direct competitor to not just Gemini but also tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity AI.
