Cupertino-based tech giant Apple has re-released iOS 17.6.1 update for eligible iPhones. The latest update comes more than a week after the release of the first iOS 17.6.1 version. Marked with build number 21G101, eligible iPhone users can download the update by heading to the 'General tab' within 'Settings'. While downloading the update from the 'Software Update' section, you must ensure stable internet connectivity.

Citing the release note, MacRumors reported the update fixes an issue that prevents users from "enabling or disabling Advanced Data Protection." Beyond this, the key differentiators from the previous version remain unknown at the time of filing. According to the report, the issue affected a small number of users who may view an error when enabling "Advanced Data Protection".

"This update includes important bug fixes and addresses an issue that prevents enabling or disabling Advanced Data Protection," the release note said. With the bug, while the feature might show up as disabled in the UI, it may still be active for the data of iCloud. This bug has been fixed with the update.

Users affected by the bug may see a notification to confirm whether they must disable the feature after installing the iOS 17.6.1 update. In another piece of news, the company also released the watchOS 10.6.1 update which may prevent access to Apple Fitness+ service. The update does not bring any notable features or improvements in both cases.

Meanwhile, Apple is working on iOS 18, which is expected to start rolling out for users in September 2024. This update may bring major enhancements across the UI and AI features. The .1 update may bring Apple Intelligence features in beta for eligible iPhones. The release date of the software is expected after the launch of the iPhone 16 series. Apple's new smartphones are expected to debut on September 10.
