WHILE Apple is gearing to host WWDC 2023 and make some highly-anticipated announcements, the company is also planning something big in the generative AI space, which we can infer from the job vacancies listed on the website's career page.
Pocket-lint (who noted the change) reported that the Cupertino, California-based tech giant posted 43 jobs across its machine learning and AI teams last month. Out of the total 176 job postings, 68 jobs focus towards Siri, the voice assistant of Apple, 52 openings relate to iOS, and 46 vacant positions are directly related to macOS.
On performing a clean keyword search for 'AI,' the platform reported 88 results. Upon searching for 'generative,' the listing returned 48 jobs. As per Pocket-lint, eight postings have the keyword in their title. These are listed below:
- Multimodal Generative Modeling Research Engineer
- Visual Generative Modeling Research Engineer
- Visual Generative Modeling Research Engineer
- Machine Learning Engineer - Generative AI
- Generative AI Applied Researcher - SIML, ISE
- Proactive Intelligence, Applied Research Scientist - Generative AI x 3
While reports suggest that the tech giant has reportedly frozen fresh recruitments, the careers listing hints otherwise. It seems that the company is orienting towards AI in the footsteps of other big tech companies like Microsoft and Google.
However, at the Q2-earnings call, the company reported it would approach AI in a "deliberate and thoughtful" manner, according to TechCrunch. Secondly, as per WSJ, the company has begun restricting the use of AI models like ChatGPT to stop the leakage of sensitive details.
On a related note, WWDC 2023 is slated to start on June 5, where the iPhone maker could bring a host of new products and software. Among the top hyped products include the Mixed Reality Headset, 15-inch MacBook Air, iOS 17, watchOS 10, and more.
Speaking of updates on AI, ChatGPT maker, OpenAI recently introduced the official app for iOS users. The language model was launched last year and has grown to become an internet sensation across the globe for its conversation capabilities.
