Apple announced the offline availability of the Vision Pro this month for buyers in the US. The headset is the company's premium "spatial computing" device that is priced at $3,499. Amid the range of reactions from the tech fraternity, OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman has shared his thoughts on the device. For the AI superboy, the device is in second place when it comes to "most impressive tech" since the launch of the Apple iPhone.
While it is unclear at the moment if the OpenAI chief personally tried the headset (or purchased one), these comments add to the bloc of people who feel positive about the headset. "Vision Pro is second most impressive tech since the iPhone [edited capitalisation]," Altman posted on X (formerly called Twitter).
Critics argue the weight, low battery backup (with the battery pack), complicated internal structure that hinders repairability, and front glass that can get scratched easily among the downsides of the premium device. These can hamper the otherwise unmatched, magical and immersive experience of the Vision Pro. The headset runs on visionOS.

The immersive device combines virtual and augmented reality to deliver a mixed-reality experience. A bloc of audience who is positive about Vision Pro's potential think it to be the iPhone moment for expanded screens beyond the personal handhelds. The headset offers micro-OLED displays with 23 million pixels and up to 100Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, the device gets an M2 and R1 chip.
On a related note, the CEO also shared on X that OpenAI "now generates about 100 billion words per day." For context, "all people on Earth generate about 100 trillion words per day," the CEO added. The AI research and deployment company's ChatGPT is among the popular language models used widely for text generation.
