Amid news pouring in of Apple Watch saving lives, the manufacturer is rumoured to be working on another remarkable innovation. Reportedly, Apple is considering blood glucose monitoring via their smart wearable watches. However, the monitoring solution is yet to be unveiled via official channels.

According to a Bloomberg report, Apple is reportedly working on a project to monitor blood glucose levels without using invasive tools with the help of its Apple Watch. The company will reportedly use a silicon 'photonics chip' that will use laser-based technology to deliver the results to the wearers of the Apple Watch.

It is reported that the company is toiling on this initiative for over a decade now since it inked a deal with RareLight (a manufacturer of blood glucose monitoring solutions), according to a News18 report citing sources. The size of the product is close to an iPhone, and Apple is working to reduce the footprint of the tech to a "thumb-size chip," which is a difficult task to accomplish, the report added.

The company frequently gains praise for its accurate notifications about deteriorating key health indicators in the body. Latest generation Apple Watch models come with ECG, Blood Oxygen app and additional features that help offer an exhaustive view of the wearer's health.

Apple Watch Ultra is the most premium offering in the watch lineup of Apple priced at Rs 89,990. It is coupled with sensors to monitor heart health notifications and share fitness stats with the wearer.

If added to upcoming smartwatches, the functionality can prove to be a breakthrough for diabetic patients to analyse their blood glucose chart. However, it is not expected to appear in the next generation of Apple Watch models because of the size and pre-trial phase of the product. Plus, Apple has a track record of fine-tuning its product and features perfectly before making them public.
