Apple may soon unveil smart glasses, reminds of its popular Meta Ray-Ban series. Recent reports indicate that Apple will combine their design expertise with augmented reality capabilities, offering users both stylish and practical wearable technology. Although official details remain under wraps, sources indicate that Apple's forthcoming smart glasses could complement its existing Vision Pro headset in providing more lightweight AR experiences in daily life. As tech giants slide in a competition to lead the next wave of wearable devices, Apple's move to develop smart eyewear indicates its intention to become the go-to provider in both the premium headset and fashionable smart eyewear markets. While an exact launch timeline has yet to be confirmed, Apple smart glasses development appears to be underway.

Apple Smart Glasses Prototype

According to Bloomberg reports, Apple is currently developing a novel smart glasses prototype which resembles Meta's partnership with Ray-Ban and includes integrated camera functionality. Production for these smart glasses should begin in late 2026 or 2027 and a launch could possibly occur as soon as 2027. In parallel, however, Apple is purportedly also involved with developing another AR eyewear system featuring smart eyewear with integrated display technology.

Apple Smart Glasses – What to Expect

Bloomberg, in their report, indicates the glasses may use custom chips similar to those found in an Apple Watch, tailored specifically for multiple cameras – suggesting multiple lenses may be built in within them.

Last month, Bloomberg reported that Apple would follow in Meta's footsteps by equipping their glasses with cameras, microphones and speakers while remaining lightweight and relatively affordable. Furthermore, these glasses will likely rely heavily on Siri's conversational AI abilities for performing tasks, navigating apps, and engaging content - and may include real-time contextual help by analysing what the wearer is viewing at any given moment.

What from Meta?

Apple's AR glasses are still in early development. Meanwhile, Meta is taking an alternative path. Last year they unveiled the Orion smart glasses concept; using standard-looking lenses with an internal virtual layer capable of projecting 2D and 3D content onto them for display. Although not for sale to consumers yet, Meta reportedly plans on offering an updated second generation Orion as soon as this year.
