APPLE, a Cupertino-based technology company that has recently announced the dates for Worldwide Developers Conference 2023, is reportedly not going to unveil the highly anticipated mixed reality headset at the event, confirms a reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
According to reports, the Mixed Reality Headset has been delayed several times due to supply chain and design issues. A report also claimed that Apple employees do not believe in the product and that there are design and pricing issues.
"Because Apple isn't very optimistic about the AR/MR headset announcement recreating the astounding 'iPhone moment,' the mass production schedule for assembly has been pushed back by another 1-2 months to mid-to-late 3Q23," said Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo on Thursday.
"The delay also raises doubts about whether the new device will be unveiled at WWDC 2023, as the market widely anticipates," he added. According to Kuo, the reasons for Apple's lack of enthusiasm for announcing an AR/MR headset include the "economic downturn, compromises on some hardware specifications for mass production (such as weight), the readiness of the ecosystem and applications, a high selling price ( in between $3,000 and 4,000 or even higher), and so on."
Furthermore, due to the delay in mass production for assembly, a total of 200,000 to 400,000 units are expected to be shipped this year, which is less than the market consensus of 500,000 units or more.
Meanwhile, Apple has announced that its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will be held online from June 5 to June 9, as the company works on next-generation operating systems for its product portfolio. According to the company, on opening day, developers and students will be able to celebrate in person at a special experience at Apple Park.
