JE Technology Desk: As we enter the third quarter of 2023, we must acknowledge that India witnessed the launch of some stunning mid-range smartphones. Be it from the oldest player Motorola or homegrown Lava, several phone launches managed to prove that the best bracket to buy a bang-for-the-buck smartphone rests roughly within the Rs 25,000 to 35,000 bracket.
These sub-premium smartphones pack some traits of a flagship device that adds to their positives. While the premium audience would still prefer a Samsung, Apple and Google, at least these devices give a tough fight on paper in several areas of the spec sheet. Here are a few notable traits that were earlier associated with super-pricey devices but are now making way in the mid-range segment.
Large Storage
Until last year, the flagship offering from Samsung and iPhone offered one terabyte unit. But this changed with the arrival of the Realme Narzo 60 Pro 5G. Binge watchers and power users now have a 1TB option in India in the Rs 30,000 bracket, which is nearly one-fifth the cost of a flagship.
Great Gaming
Thanks to the performance-centric phones from iQOO (the latest iQOO Neo 7 Pro to recall the latest one), gamers can enjoy ravishing performance in popular games such as BGMI and Call of Duty. POCO, Xiaomi and OnePlus also offer great smartphones in the segment to furnish the demands of heavy users.
OIS: A big boon for video creators
Content creators in India rely heavily on smartphones to shoot media material, especially videos. Phone makers such as Samsung, Nothing, OnePlus, and Realme offer a catalogue of options for these creators in the mid-range and premium segments to fulfil the demands of this group.
Curved Display In Sub-Rs 20,000
While curved screens were a premium attribute lately until last year, this changed with the launch of Lava AGNI 2 5G. Initially popularised by Realme 10 Pro+, users now enjoy a wide range of options from Motorola, Vivo, Realme and more in the sub-Rs-25,000-35,000 price point.

To conclude, despite all these new upgrades, mid-range phones still have a wide path to cover to act as a solid substitute for a premium flagships from tech giants like Apple and Samsung. These high-priced devices offer premium software, unmatched camera quality, consistent performance, and features like wireless charging, and IP rating that still justifies their price tag for a large number of users.
