ASUS, a Taiwanese company has announced a new handheld console in collaboration with Xbox, part of Project Kenan. The device is expected to run on a customized version of Windows. ASUS has already launched a handheld gaming console – ROG Ally. But this time it looks like they are partnering with Microsft Xbox in order to provide the best of its handheld gaming experience.

It is not ASUS’ first handheld product, but the partnership with Xbox could mean a direct and big competition to Steam Deck. It could run on a customized version of Windows made especially for handhelds. Here’s everything you need to know about this ASUS Xbox handheld.

ASUS ROG Ally ft. XBox OS – The first device

A recent teaser video posted by ROG Global X's account showcases a robot working on the next generation of ROG Ally. The poster video shows words like faster speeds, new look, marathon stamina, and more capacity.

This indicates that there will be significant upgrades over the previous generation of the ROG Ally. Notably, the upcoming ROG Ally integrates design elements from the ROG Rakiri Pro controller, creating a unified user experience. Furthermore, the official Xbox account responded to the announcement with a meme post, humorously suggesting the partnership between Xbox and ASUS.

The teaser provides a glimpse into the upcoming device, but its exact launch date remains a mystery. Although some speculate that it might be an April Fool's prank, there's no clear indication of a joke. Fans will have to wait and see what ASUS and Microsoft have planned.

Project Kenan : ASUS Xbox Console

It is the first time that Xbox is collaborating with a third-party manufacturer to make a handheld gaming console. The ASUS Xbox handheld console is likely to run on a customized version of Windows, not a native Xbox OS. This development aligns with Microsoft's "Xbox everywhere" strategy, which aims to enable users to access and play Xbox games on a diverse range of devices, including those from competing manufacturers such as the PlayStation 5 and other handheld consoles.

Xbox sales aren't blowing up like PlayStation's, but Microsoft's really pushing GamePass. Additionally, ASUS might be dropping an Xbox handheld with AMD's new chip, probably around $500 to $600 ~₹40,000 to ₹50,000. Handhelds are definitely the hot thing for 2025, what with Nintendo's new Switch coming and Microsoft also jumping in.
