Chatgpt Global Outage: ChatGPT, Open AI’s popular AI chatbot, faced a major global outage on Thursday, leaving millions of users without access for more than three hours. However, the AI tool is now back online. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, OpenAI wrote, “ChatGPT, API, and Sora were down today but we've recovered.”
The global outage not only impacted ChatGPT but also OpenAI’s API and Sora video generation platforms. The disruption came hours after OpenAI announced ChatGPT’s integration with iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

OpenAI quickly addressed and fixed the bug that caused the outage, restoring service. However, the main cause of the disruption remains unknown. The disruptions took place on the same day as a separate outage affecting Meta’s WhatsApp and Facebook services.
Open AI took to X to inform users about the outage. “We're experiencing an outage right now. We have identified the issue and are working to roll out a fix. Sorry, and we'll keep you updated!” it wrote on X. Following this, netizens reacted with jokes and took a jibe at the AI chatbot.
This is not the first time ChatGPT faced disruptions. Last month, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman apologised on X after the AI tool faced an outage for 30 minutes. More than 19,000 people were impacted due to the unavailability of the chatbot. Altman admitted that the company was much better at reliability than it used to be but there is still a lot more work to do.
Similarly, other social media platforms including WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook experienced outages on Wednesday night, affecting thousands of users globally. The outage widely affected communication. Following this, Meta said that it was conducting final checks as several users reported regaining access to the platforms.
