JE Technology Desk: After WhatsApp, scammers are heading to Telegram to target users in part-time job scams. We say this because liking videos and rating hotels to earn money are among the favourite ways to dupe people. In a recent case, a 53-year-old Mumbai resident was duped for Rs 1.27 crore in a fraud that lured him into investing huge sums in exchange for handsome returns which never materialised.

According to a Times Of India report, the victim recently sold his property and was looking to invest this amount in another flat. However, the man was approached by a woman on Telegram in February for a part-time job offer of rating movies and hotels in exchange for monetary benefits. While the person received thousands as payments in the beginning from the scammers, here's how he lost his money:

Initially, the man received a weblink from the scammer lady to share his bank details. Later, he received a login ID and password to access his e-wallet. Firstly he was asked to send Rs 10,000 to a bank account. Upon completing the allotted tasks, he received over Rs 17,000 as payments to gain trust. He was then asked to deposit Rs 32,000.

Following repeated fund transfers, he made a big move on May 17 and deposited Rs 48 lakh. The woman assured him he could withdraw the money from the e-wallet right after sending the Rs 30 lakh. Not comprehending the scam, he transferred Rs 76 lakh in multiple iterations.

Despite these transactions, he was unable to claim the displayed money. Consequently, the man reached out to the police to register a complaint.

According to the police, the scammer won the man's confidence by offering him monetary rewards. He was asked to invest huge amounts in exchange for profits. Once the victim completes the payments, these fraudsters escape and snap all touchpoints.
