Elon Musk has once again ignited controversy—this time targeting Netflix. The Tesla, SpaceX, and X (formerly Twitter) chief has urged parents to cancel their Netflix subscriptions “for the health of your kids”, fuelling a viral campaign that has taken social media by storm.

How the Cancel Netflix Campaign Started

On September 30, 2025, the movement began when the right-wing account Libs of TikTok shared aDead End: Paranormal Park animated series scene featuring a transgender protagonist that outraged conservative audiences and caused much discussion within conservative circles. Elon Musk voiced his outrage in commenting, "This is not ok."

Shortly after, he posted: “Cancel Netflix for the health of your kids.” That single line went viral, amassing over 53 million views and 390,000 likes in just days.

Why Musk Is Backing the Campaign

Musk has long presented himself as an opponent of what he terms “wokeism”. This is the latest position in his general pushback against mainstream culture. He reshared a clip from conservative commentator Benny Johnson, who accused Netflix of “sexualising children” by pushing “explicit, radical sex topics”. Musk responded that he “totally agreed”.

In follow-up exchanges with his followers, Musk claimed to have cancelled his own Netflix subscription, framing the move as “fighting back and taking a stand.”

Netflix’s Response

As of now, Netflix has yet to respond directly to Musk's criticism or the campaign against Dead End: Paranormal Park on Netflix; however, Dead End was already cancelled after two seasons and no longer promoted on their platform.

A Culture War Flashpoint

The campaign highlights the broader cultural chasm on children’s content in streaming media. To fans, Musk’s position saves children from being exposed to what they view as unsuitable content; opponents say such pressure fosters intolerance and injects entertainment with politics.

Whether this viral wave will meaningfully dent Netflix’s subscriber base remains to be seen. But Musk’s megaphone effect is undeniable—once again placing him at the centre of America’s cultural battles.
