Elon Musk has introduced a new creative capability for Grok, the AI chatbot from his company xAI. The update includes a new image-to-video capability that lets users turn static photos into animated video clips with a long press. Musk showed the feature on X, formerly Twitter. He called it "magical" in how seamlessly it brings images to life using generative AI.
From Still to Motion: Grok's Expanding Creative Power
To demonstrate the feature, Musk shared a short video clip created from an image using the prompt: “add a boyfriend and they transition into muppets.” The output was quirky and imaginative, showcasing Grok’s ability to understand creative instructions and animate them in unique, playful ways.

It's pretty easy to use: in Grok, long-press any image to activate the image-to-video creation feature. They can then type in creative prompts to influence how the animation turns out. Grok then generates a short clip that can be previewed, saved, or shared directly.
How Grok's Image-to-Video Feature Works
Simply start with an image: upload or select one inside Grok. Long-press on it to fire up the video generation engine. You could add a prompt if you want to personalise your output, like Musk's "Add a boyfriend and they transition into muppets." Grok's generative AI understands your command and turns what was a static photo into an animation. Once ready, you can instantly watch, save, or share the clip.

Grok’s Creative Toolkit Keeps Expanding
The new image-to-video feature is now live for Grok users both on X and in the standalone Grok app. This feature adds to the growing lineup on the platform, including writing assistance, image generation, and real-time data access. Musk also teased that the creative functionalities of Grok are still evolving, with more generative features expected in future updates.
