Grok AI Chatbot: Elon Musk’s xAI is working on introducing a bold new feature for its Grok AI chatbot — the “Unhinged” mode. Recently, the company put an update on its FAQ page to mention this mode, which is described as intentionally “objectionable, inappropriate, and offensive.”

While the regular mode of Grok gives out your typical, earnest responses and the Fun mode tends to be a bit more on the sarcastic and humorous side, the Unhinged mode is expected to take things much further. Musk had teased the feature last year, but no official announcement has been made regarding its release date.

As noted in the FAQ, the Unhinged mode is still in development and may be available to only a select group of users at first. The model is described as a chatbot that might be like an “amateur stand-up comic still learning the craft” — unfiltered and pushing the limits of acceptable conversation. While the regular and Fun modes steer clear of using offensive language, the Unhinged mode will likely break these boundaries.

However, there’s no clarity on how xAI plans to safeguard younger audiences from inappropriate content. Grok’s terms of service specify that the chatbot is not intended for users under 13, and users aged 13 to 18 must have permission from a parent or guardian to use it.

While there is not much official information available about the Unhinged version, Musk had hinted at its arrival on X (formerly Twitter), and more information is expected to drop soon as the feature gets closer to release. The Unhinged mode could definitely bring some out-of-the-box raw edge experience for Grok users, it is still a mystery how it will be managed when the feature is finally rolled out.
