APPLE first started selling iPhones in India 15 years back. And this year will be etched in history as a major landmark for the Cupertino-based giant's time in the country. From reportedly producing nearly seven per cent of global iPhones to opening the first store in Mumbai, 2023 packs a lot for India and the smartphone market.

To refresh this journey in your memories, here are the top five amazing events from Apple's time in India.

August 2008: While the first gen 2007 model iPhone never debuted in India, iPhone 3G marked the stepping stone of Apple in the country in August 2008. It launched at Rs 31,000 (8GB) and Rs 36,100 (16GB), according to Gadgets Now. It arrived in Airtel and Vodafone stores, the report adds.

January 2016: The gadgets maker first filed an application to the Indian government for stores in the country. Later in May, Apple Boss Tim Cook visited India for a meeting in the capital with Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the company aimed to chart out a diversification plan, Reuters reports.

May 2017: After India softened its investment guidelines in 2016, Apple joined hands with Wistron, Pegatron and Foxconn for the assembly of iPhones. The first model to ship out of the plant was the iPhone SE at the Karnataka plant of Wistron, reports state.

September 2020: While the world was jolted by the global pandemic, the smartphone giant had no plans to stop. Apple announced its 'online store' for the first time, narrowing down the gap between third-party outlets and customers to trade its tech products. This blended with the festivities in India.

October 2020: To boost smartphone production under a federal plan, the government approved incentives to 16 companies (including Apple), Reuters reports.

This was followed by plant inauguration in Tamil Nadu (September 2022) by Pegatron to assemble iPhones. the report adds. Amid all these happenings, the recent one includes the inauguration of the first Apple store in India at BKC Mumbai by Tim Cook on April 18. Speaking of the latest update, the Cook inaugurated the second store at the Select City Walk Mall, Saket, New Delhi today.
