Google Android Theft Protection: Google has just announced a new upgrade aimed at making the iPhones harder to target for thieves. As per Google, the latest theft protection tools have improved how devices handle failed login attempts, biometric authentication and remote recovery. These updates tighten the existing protection of lockout behaviour, and they also add more safety for sensitive apps. The update is now rolling out to phones running on Android 16 and later. It is also confirmed by Google that they have made it more difficult for attackers to guess the device’s PINs, patterns, or passwords through continuous re-attempts.

New Theft protection features on Android

As per Google’s security blog, the tools enhance the authentication and recovery across multiple Android versions.

What’s new?

- Stronger lockouts after repeated failed PIN, pattern, or password attempts.

- Identical wrong guesses no longer count as retry limits

- Dedicated toggle for failed authentication lock that was first introduced in Android 15

- Biometric verification required for sensitive actions outside trusted locations

Apps that rely on the Android biometric lock, like those banking apps you use and Google Password Manager, will totally benefit from the new Identity check feature.

New Theft protection Better Recovery And Remote Lock

Google is also upgrading its recovery tools for devices running on Android 10 or above. Users will now be able to add an additional security challenge when they use remote lock. This adds another layer of protection on your device during recovery.

- Theft detection lock: Uses AI to sense suspicious movements.

These measures are aimed at securing data immediately after a theft attempt
