Google Pixel series is among those devices which prefer to offer more safety and features to its consumers all over the world and following that mindset, the company has introduced yet another key safety feature which is related to device tracking. With the latest update to the Find My Device feature, the tech giant now claims that the Pixel 8 series can be tracked even when the phone is switched off.
As per the tech giant, offline tracking is possible because of the special Pixel hardware which is a part of Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. According to The Verge citing Google spokesperson Natalie Johnson, the Pixel 8 series has reserved power in the device for several hours and is channelled to the Bluetooth chip. With this, the users will be able to locate their devices for several hours even after their devices are switched off or drained of battery.
Now the speculations arise if the company will introduce the feature to the upcoming Pixel Fold 2 and Pixel 9 along with Pixel 9 Pro. Well, it is not confirmed at the moment but we expect it will be a part of the flagships but not the Pixel 8a, which is speculated to arrive at the Google IO developer event.
The upgraded Find My Device from Google is rolling out for the Pixel 8 series users in the US and Canada. Google has also been vocal about the personal safety and security of the users and the Find My Device will also offer safety with unknown tracker alerts, end-to-end encryption, rate limiting/throttling for location requests, and other measures in place.
