Google is broadening the functionality of its Gemini AI, speeding up and extending page summarization by web on Android. Until now, Gemini could only summarie the part of a webpage that fit in the screen window, which limited its usefulness for longer articles or pages with several sections. Google announced in September that the Gemini overlay in Chrome for Android will be able to reach the entire web page soon, offering users a full-page summary in one shot.
The update also brings a “Summarise page” chip in the Gemini overlay. The chip is located just above the prompt bar, between “Share screen with Live” and “Ask about page,” enabling easy access to the summarization feature without additional navigation. When people tap it, their screens briefly flash animated waves of red, yellow, green and blue that indicate Gemini is processing the page.

The result is then displayed in a floating window that can be expanded for fuller detail. You can prompt people to ask follow-up questions about the content in order to bring users deeper into it, making it possible to explore specific parts of that content without leaving the page. The summary is also made using Gemini 2.5 Flash, and not the model specified in the Gemini app – means I will get uniformed quality to compare.

This update that adds the ability to turn webpage on long articles from pages lengthy into a nice bite sized snack, and the ability to click on inline "parent" links is now really starting to make our Android summarisation tool somewhat useful in practice. Google’s decision is just one of many new attempts to infuse browsing and research workflows with AI, which are aimed at saving people time and helping them glean more insight more quickly. With full-page access paired with an easy shortcut and interactive summaries, Gemini now provides a smoother user experience for anyone who uses AI to consume content online.
