During its annual developer conference, Google introduced a few new features for its popular Gmail client. Beginning next month, the internet giant will integrate Gemini AI inside programs including Gmail, Drive, Docs, and others, as well as a side panel. Here are all of the AI-powered features added to Gmail during Google I/O 2024.

Gmail AI Features:

Gemini is backing three AI-powered innovations for Gmail. At first, users will be able to summarise any email. The new functionality will assess all relevant email threads based on the question and provide you with a summary view in the Gmail application. All users need to do is click the summarise button, and all threads will appear in a few paragraphs or pointers, reducing the need to spend time reading and finding various emails. This capability will become accessible to Workspace customers with a Google One membership next month.

Second, Google has announced Gmail Q&A, which allows you to express and ask questions in natural language. When you have particular questions, you can access the prompt box from the right-hand side panel. It can come up with the answers to the questions and scenarios based on the inputs of your threads.

Thirdly, Google announced “Contextual Smart Reply”. The users will now get smart replies as suggestions based on the context of the mail they are replying to. The feature will be helpful for the users in saving time and crafting even better and more professional email replies. The feature will be rolled out to Workspace Labs starting in July and will be followed by the general public soon.

Google Workspace also receives a side panel, which will be available starting next month. It will assist you in summarising, analysing, and creating content by leveraging insights from your emails, papers, and other sources. This enables users to extract data from their conversations, independent of time range, and produce Sheets or Docs for easier comprehension and visualisation. It will be available on the desktop next month for both enterprises and consumers via Gemini for Workspace add-ons and the Google One AI Premium plan.
