Google I/O 2025 Media Tool: Yesterday, Google introduced its latest generative media models, signaling a major step forward in AI-driven creativity. These models are designed to support artists, musicians, and creators with tools that help them generate images, videos, and music more easily and effectively.

The update includes new releases like Veo 3 and Imagen 4, which advance video and image generation respectively, along with broader access to the music generation model Lyria 2. Google also launched Flow, a filmmaking tool that uses DeepMind’s most advanced models to help visual storytellers produce cinematic content with more refined control over characters, scenes, and styles.

These developments were shaped in collaboration with professionals from the creative industries — including filmmakers, musicians, visual artists, and YouTube creators — to ensure the tools are practical and responsibly built.

Veo 3: Adding sound to video generation

Veo 3 is Google’s latest video generation model and builds on Veo 2 with significant upgrades. For the first time, it can generate synchronized audio alongside visuals — from ambient street sounds to birdsong, and even dialogue between characters. It also improves across key areas such as real-world physics, image prompting, and lip syncing. Veo 3 is currently available to Ultra subscribers in the U.S. through the Gemini app and in Flow, and to enterprise users via Vertex AI.

Veo 2 enhancements

Alongside Veo 3, Google has introduced new features to Veo 2 based on feedback from the creative community. These include:

Reference-powered video, which allows creators to input specific images of characters, settings, and styles for better visual consistency.

-Camera controls for defining movements like pans, zooms, and rotations.

-Outpainting, which extends the frame to different aspect ratios.

-Object add and remove, enabling scene edits while maintaining realistic interactions and shadows.

Reference and camera tools are now accessible in Flow, with wider availability through the Vertex AI API planned in the coming weeks.

Flow: AI-assisted filmmaking

Flow is a new creative platform built around Veo, Imagen, and Gemini. It enables users to describe shots using natural language and organize storytelling elements — like cast, locations, and visual styles — in one place. It’s now available for U.S.-based subscribers to Google’s AI Pro and Ultra plans, with broader rollout expected.

Imagen 4: Visual quality and improved text rendering

Imagen 4, the latest version of Google’s image generation model, focuses on clarity, detail, and flexibility. It performs well in both photorealistic and abstract styles and supports resolutions up to 2K across various aspect ratios. The model also shows notable improvements in handling typography, making it easier to generate content like posters, greeting cards, and comics. Imagen 4 is available through the Gemini app, Whisk, Vertex AI, and across Google Workspace apps like Slides, Docs, and Vids. A faster variant, up to ten times quicker than Imagen 3, is in development.

Lyria 2: Expanding musical creativity

Lyria 2, which powers the Music AI Sandbox launched in April, is now more widely available. It offers tools for musicians, producers, and songwriters to explore new composition techniques. Lyria RealTime, an interactive model used in MusicFX DJ, is also accessible via API and in AI Studio, allowing users to create and control music in real time. These tools are available to creators via YouTube Shorts and to enterprises through Vertex AI.

Content labeling and detection

Google continues its work on responsible AI use through SynthID, which has added watermarks to over 10 billion pieces of AI-generated media. Content created using Veo 3, Imagen 4, and Lyria 2 will also carry SynthID markers. Additionally, the company has launched SynthID Detector — a tool that helps users verify whether a piece of content contains these markers, either in full or in part.

These updates reflect Google’s broader aim to support creativity through AI while prioritizing transparency, user control, and responsible deployment.
