GOOGLE recently polished the UI elements in Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Last year, it did the same with the highly popular Gmail. And now Google Chat will undergo similar cosmetic changes, the Workspace Updates feed. The update is based on the tech giant's Material Design 3, which bundles updated elements from font to colours to layout and more.
To streamline, Google highlights changes in the app bar on the top, navigation, message view, compose setup and fresh topic button. Plus, touch-ups in "the thread panel" within spaces and direct messages are marked. On top of this, The Verge swiftly pointed out the new rounder buttons and search bar with blue accents.
"We hope this modernized product experience increases collaboration and enables you to more easily complete tasks within your workflow," the search leader added.
The new design adjustments will become noticeable to users in the coming weeks. It will roll out in the next 15 days, starting April 13. Revamped Chat shall be available to all Workspace, legacy G Suite Basic and Business users. Plus, personal accounts can also experience the "consistent, enhanced look" on Chat.
Earlier, the tech giant announced a feature that allowed "Space Managers the ability to configure spaces for sharing organizational announcements." This limited announcement capabilities to Space Managers. Additionally, on April 12, the tech giant announced that Currents would retire on July 5. Workspace admins can download the data latest by August 8, 2023. After the date, the data will become inaccessible.
Speaking of other updates, the tech giant introduced an auto-archive feature that can reduce the storage footprint of apps up to 60 per cent without affecting their functioning and data. The Android maker also released the first build of Android 14 beta was introduced for Pixel phones by the tech giant.
Google announced it would host the I/O event in May this year. Along with software announcements, the Mountain View-headquartered giant could unveil the Pixel 7a series at the event.
