Google announced the Pixel Watch 3 with Google Maps offline support earlier this month. The feature is now expanding to more smartwatches running on Wear OS. The feature will help users navigate even if the device does not have access to an internet connection or is connected to a handset for internet support.
Spotted by 9To5Google, the app informs that offline maps are auto-downloaded from the phone to the connected smartwatch. For eligible users, the "Offline maps" page will be displayed above the Settings near the bottom of the main list. As per the report, the app seems to auto-download the map of your nearby area and sync other offline locations from the linked smartphone.
Users can also delete them from here if they think they take up a lot of space or if the owner wants to free up storage. The maps will automatically sync when the device is connected to Wi-Fi or is charging. A slashed cloud icon will be displayed when using offline Google Maps. The feature will reportedly join the "Search & go" Tile that displays the Home and Work shortcuts and a microphone for voice input.
The report said the feature is rolling out with Google Maps version "11.140.0701.W" of Wear OS. It was spotted in the Pixel Watch 2 enrolled with Google Maps beta. It appears the feature is rolling out on Wear OS and is expected to reach more users in the coming days. Meanwhile, Google recently introduced the Pixel Watch 3 series (41mm and 45mm).
The smartwatch also debuted with a "Loss of Pulse Detection" that detects when the heart stops beating suddenly. It runs on the latest Wear OS 5 and starts from Rs 39,990 in India. The 45mm version costs Rs 43,990. Next to the smartwatch, the company also unveiled the Pixel Buds Pro 2 and the Pixel 9 Series.
