Google Maps is one of the most popular sources of directions for many consumers. Google has been open about collecting users' location data, which is a source of worry for authorities in several nations. To address the issue, the California-based tech giant has unveiled some new features that would give consumers more control over location data in Maps.
These new features will be available with the upcoming version, which will also include auto-delete and Incognito mode on Google Maps. According to the corporation, these new features are intended to give users with increased transparency, safety, and security.
Google will soon allow users to view previous places and experiences by saving the data directly to their device. This will give consumers more control over their data by allowing them to erase a portion of the timeline or perhaps the entire timeline. Users will also be able to disable the feature and pick Cloud backup for their data.
Furthermore, the company has also enhanced the auto delete control for Location History to three months, which as was previously 1.5 years giving users more control.
Google now allows users to view and erase their recent activity connected to a single area, which includes searches, directions, visits, and shares, all accessible from a centralised location within Maps. Users will be able to simply manage their privacy and maintain control over their location footprint with this new functionality.
The new blue dot, which will also have more controls, is another feature. It will serve as the position marker on maps. With the latest version, Google now makes it simple for users to tap on the blue dot to access important location options.
It will be in charge of displaying data like a brief synopsis of location history and a timeline in addition to granting Maps access to device locations. It will also become simpler to determine whether Maps is tracking the location of your device or not.
Do note that these features will be rolled out in a phased over the year and users will get notifications for the same.
