GOOGLE, the California-based technology giant, has announced the availability of the ability to disable individual feeds in Google Meet Call. With this feature, a user can turn off the video feed during a Google Meet call, allowing them to concentrate solely on speaking or presenting, as well as the presentation screen.
Previously, the user had to watch all of the participants, which could be distracting at times, but Google has now added this feature. The company also claims that it will not notify the participants if you disable their video feed. In addition, the company has stated that the meeting layout will not change for anyone else on the call.
"During a Google Meet call, you can now turn off the video feed from other participants. This can be useful in situations where you want to restrict your meeting view to just the presenter or hide participants with distracting video feeds," Google explained in a blog post.
This feature will be available through Google Meet on both the web and mobile devices. Along with this new feature, Google is now making it possible to block out all feeds except those belonging to those who are currently presenting. Users can enable it before joining a meeting by selecting "Audio only," but for the time being, it is only available on mobile devices. The feature will be available to all Google Workspace users as well as current G Suite Basic and Business users, claims the company.
You can use the feature by selecting a person from the list of people, then choosing the three dots next to their name, and choosing the option to not watch.
In the meantime, Google has added new functionality to Meet, enabling admins to give their users personalised background images. The tech giant stated in a blog post for Workspace Updates that "we've heard from our users that having backgrounds that match your brand guidelines is important for visual polish during critical meetings."With the new function, administrators can supply a collection of images for Google Meet's "background replace" feature.
