Google IO 2023 featured a slew of intriguing announcements, many of which were AI-related. Project Tailwind was one of the key centrepieces of the company's announcement of a series of new AI enhancements. Project Tailwind is a new type of notebook designed to help people learn more quickly. In a new update, the company has announced that it has started rolling out the NotebookLM (Project Tailwind’s new name) which is currently available to a small group of users in the US.

What Is Notebook LM (Project Tailwind)?

Notebook LM is an experimental AI-based product from Google Labs that seeks to rethink what note-taking software may look like if you developed it from the ground up with the knowledge that it would include a powerful language model at its core: hence the LM.

What Notebook LM Can Do?

Just like Google’s other AI-related services, the Notebook LM comes with a slew of new features. Here is the list of features that it can do:

1. Summary:

The Notebook LM can provide a summary, as well as significant topics and questions to ask, to help you better grasp the information.

2. Questions:

You can ask questions regarding the documents you've submitted when you're ready for a deeper investigation. A biographer could post research notes and ask a question.

3. Generate Ideas:

NotebookLM isn't just for questions and answers. The company discovered that some of its more fun and beneficial qualities are when it can assist users in coming up with imaginative new ideas.

With this, Google in its blog post has mentioned that the team which developed the platform kept two things in mind which include helping the users and rolling out the platform responsibly.

“Receiving direct feedback from you is an important component of developing AI ethically. Before extending to more people and providing new features, we will also follow a strict set of safety criteria aligned with our AI Principles while carrying out relevant protections,” the company added.
