JE Technology Desk: Google Pay, an online money transfer app, has launched UPI LITE for payments, a faster solution for token amount transactions. The feature will let users transfer small sums of money (up to Rs 200) in one click and skip the need to enter a UPI PIN.

While the LITE wallet is paired with the owner's bank account, it is independent of the banking system for operations, according to IANS, Google said in a statement. A user can spend up to Rs 4,000 in 24 hours and would let users pay up to Rs 200 without entering the PIN in a single transaction.

The Google Pay Help page adds that no fees or a separate know-your-customer (KYC) process is required to join UPI Lite. Here's how you can configure the Lite wallet on your app.

Step 1: Open the Google Pay app and tap on your profile photo

Step 2: Tap 'UPI Lite' and enter the amount you wish to add to your wallet

Step 3: Enter the UPI PIN to confirm

After the set-up process, UPI Lite will be the default payment mode for under Rs 200 payments. To keep track of transactions, a user can head to the app and scroll down to the bottom. Then tap 'Show transaction history' and search 'UPI Lite'.

To delete a UPI Lite account, head to the UPI Lite menu, tap the three dots at the top right and tap 'Delete UPI Lite' from the dialogue box. Besides easing the payment process, it helps unclutter bank statements, as payments made via UPI Lite are displayed in the app and not in the bank account statement, with balance transfers to the wallet as an exception.

A list of bank accounts that allow UPI Lite, according to Google Pay Help, are: "AU Small Finance Bank, Axis Bank, Bank of India, ICICI, Indian, Kotak, SBI, South Indian Bank and Union Bank." Other big players, including Paytm and PhonePe, have already rolled out their UPI Lite mechanisms as a medium to pay users.
