GOOGLE Photos is among the tech giant's popular photos/videos organiser used worldwide. While users might use the app for diverse purposes, locating media in its highly cluttered gallery can prove to be a humungous task for some. To ease this pain for users, Google is reportedly "experimenting" with a comparatively "powerful search" on the platform, according to 9To5Google.

As per the report, a new prompt that reads "Try a more powerful search" is appearing on Google Photos on the web. Further, the report lists a few options as to how a user can utilise the new feature to explore the gallery. It can be more or less equated to the "natural language" input that Google Assistant accepts.

The app maker explains a user can try searching "colorful sunset, peaceful garden or Cinderella" to explore further. If an image has a labelled identity, a user can describe the scene and search with their name. Photos will bring the closest results that match the input query. It will fetch results according to relevance. The report cites search queries like "Charlie at the Golden Gate Bridge" and "Alice and Bob at the beach" as searchable query examples.

What did Google say?

9To5Google reached out to Google for a response. A company spokesperson told the media outlet that Google is "always experimenting with new ways to help people find and relive their photos and videos. This experiment allows people to search for more complex queries to help them find the photos and videos they're looking for more easily."

If the feature is under development, we can expect it to debut for a larger audience soon. It will be useful for users who store large amounts of media in their gallery and sweat hard to pin-pointing the required photo.

Speaking of other recent updates in Photos, the company announced features such as Magic Eraser, HDR effect in videos, new collage designs and more for Pixel users and Google One members on iOS and Android in February. The Photos app from Google is used across the globe for its unparalleled feature set. As per the About page of Google Photos, The Verge has labelled it as - "The best photo product on Earth."
