Google Pixel 10 Series: With the Pixel 10 series set to debut on Wednesday, August 20, leaks have been arriving thick and fast—but the latest one stands out. If accurate, it could mark a first for Google’s flagship line.

Tipster Evan Blass, known for reliable smartphone scoops, has hinted that three models—the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL—might ship without a physical SIM card tray, relying entirely on eSIM connectivity. The foldable Pixel 10 Pro Fold would be the lone exception, still offering a slot for a standard SIM card.

Blass also notes this change might only apply to US models, which would mean other regions could still see SIM trays in their devices.

Some leaked renders have shown Pixel 10 units with visible SIM slots, but many images avoid showing the bottom edge of the phone, where the tray is located on the Pixel 9. That leaves room for speculation.

It wouldn’t be a total shock if Google moved in this direction. Back in 2023, there were whispers that some Pixel 8 variants could go eSIM-only, though that never happened. Apple, however, made the leap in the US with the iPhone 14 in 2022 and hasn’t looked back.

eSIM technology has matured significantly in recent years, becoming faster, more reliable, and—for many users—more convenient than physical cards. The change would also free up internal space for other hardware, which could benefit performance or battery life.

With just over a week to go before the big reveal, the question remains whether Google will take this bold step now or wait for a future generation. One thing’s for sure: the August 20 launch will confirm whether that familiar SIM tray survives another year.
