PIYUSH Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, iterated that PM Narendra Modi is against the "chalta hai" philosophy. His comments came at a press conference as he announced that the government is working to bring quality control orders for drone production, according to a report by News18. The idea is to deliver a fine-tuned product to consumers rather than targeting imports.

The QC standards for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), popularly called drones, are in the pipeline. Additionally, work is on drones used for general purposes and testing quality conditions for sub-systems and cybersecurity, according to The Economic Times.

These devices come in handy to assess and boost crop production. It can help in crop monitoring, pest control, irrigation and more. BIS officials, cited in a Businessline report, said standards are already in place for agricultural drones used for "soil analysis, irrigation, crop mapping and pest management."

Pramod Kumar Tiwari, DG of the Bureau of Indian Standards, said once the rules are announced, drone manufacturers and importers will have to adhere to the guidelines and ensure quality standards, as per India Today. Once these orders get implemented, the companies will have to receive certification for their products from the BIS.

BIS standard-compliant drones deployed in agriculture imply that it is compatible with chemicals used during the yielding process and can handle variable payloads.

The upcoming standard on drones would ensure a wide range of design and maintenance requirements such as Control and Stability, Geo-fencing, Flight control system, Propulsion system and the performance of diverse subsystems such as Software, Control Systems and Mission Profile in ranging environmental conditions of temperature, rain pressure, vibration and humidity.

Cyber security is essential in drones for protection from growing cyber frauds, data leaks and unwarranted access. A document is being framed with risk identification in mind. Complying with it would help ensure data safety, privacy, and hijacking prevention.

Meanwhile, alongside framing standards for drones, EVs and charging infrastructure in India will also be taken care of. "New areas where we are looking at standards are areas like drones. Similarly, we are working on standards for EVs and the charging infra of EVs," the minister said, as per The Economic Times.
