GTA 5 PC: Rockstar Games has finally confirmed it: GTA 6 will launch exclusively on consoles first — and PC players will have to wait. The game is officially set to arrive on May 26, 2026, but only for PlayStation 5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. No PC release date has been mentioned, and interestingly, there’s no sign of a Nintendo Switch 2 version either.
This platform list has been confirmed not only through Rockstar’s website but also in every trailer released so far — where only these four consoles are mentioned. So, unless Rockstar has a surprise up its sleeve, PC gamers are going to have to sit this one out for a while.
Why Isn’t GTA 6 Coming to PC Right Away?
While frustrating, this isn’t out of the ordinary for Rockstar. The studio has a long history of staggering its major game releases — consoles first, PC later. Let’s take a quick look at how that’s played out in the past:

GTA 4 launched in April 2008 for PS3 and Xbox 360. The PC version didn’t arrive until December, nearly eight months later.
GTA 5 was released in September 2013 on PS3 and Xbox 360. The PC version? Not until April 2015 — a whopping 19 months later.
Red Dead Redemption 2 came out on consoles in October 2018, but the PC version wasn’t available until November 2019, more than a year later.
Given this pattern, it’s entirely possible that PC players may not get their hands on GTA 6 until sometime in 2027 — or late 2026 at the earliest.
What About the Nintendo Switch 2?
Don’t hold your breath. As of now, GTA 6 isn’t slated for the upcoming Switch 2 either. Unless Nintendo announces a major partnership or Rockstar has unannounced plans for a scaled-down port, the game may simply be too ambitious for the Switch’s hardware.
GTA 6 Trailer 2: Captured on Base PS5, and It Still Looks Stunning
Another interesting detail: Rockstar has confirmed that the visuals in Trailer 2 were captured entirely on a standard PlayStation 5, not the PS5 Pro. And even without next-gen enhancements, the footage is breathtaking — featuring ultra-detailed animations, sweat effects on characters like Jason, realistic muscle deformation, and even subtle touches like bubbles in beer bottles and sloshing fluids in water coolers.
This speaks volumes about how well-optimised GTA 6 is for current-gen hardware. However, Rockstar hasn’t shared any details yet about frame rates or target resolutions for each console — so questions remain about how well the game will run across the different systems.
In short, while it’s disappointing that PC players are once again left waiting, Rockstar’s history makes this move anything but surprising. And if previous releases are anything to go by, the eventual PC version of GTA 6 will likely come with its own set of enhancements — just not anytime soon.
