GTA 6 System Requirements: Now we all know that it is going to be a while till we get to see Rockstar's most anticipated release of this decade, GTA 6. How long, you ask? It's another year, and the release is destined to take place in May 2026, that is, obviously, if Rockstar doesn't go through any other major hiccup. By far we have had two trailers and a few screenshots that give us a glimpse into what the game has to offer this time, and from that itself it is quite evident to me that Rockstar is planning something big this time, be it gameplay, character development or graphics.
The second trailer, which is claimed to be in-game footage, shows some major enhancements when it comes to graphical fidelity. The characters seem more natural, the NPCs feel original and reactive, and the environment looks beautiful, and this is by far what Rockstar has revealed for now. Some major side characters have also been introduced in the screenshots and the trailer that give us a peek into what the game would feel like.

All this is enough for us to make a comparison between the upcoming title and its predecessor, GTA 5. We have already done a comparison of pre-release screenshots of both the games, so feel free to check it out here! Now, GTA 6 will surely come with better graphics, and the main question now is, will your PC be able to run it? As this is usually not a problem that console players face. So let's compare the expected system requirements of GTA 6 with GTA 5, and this will help you in giving a rough idea and if you need to upgrade.
GTA V System Requirements: What You Need to Know
Minimum Requirements:
To run Grand Theft Auto V on basic settings, you'll need at least:
- CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz or AMD Phenom 9850 @ 2.5 GHz
- RAM: 4 GB
- Graphics Card: NVIDIA 9800 GT 1GB or AMD HD 4870 1GB (DirectX 10 or higher)
- OS: Windows 7 64-bit or newer
- Storage: 72 GB free space
Recommended Requirements:
For smoother gameplay with better visuals, aim for:
- CPU: Intel Core i5 3470 @ 3.2 GHz or AMD FX-8350 @ 4 GHz
- RAM: 8 GB
- Graphics Card: NVIDIA GTX 660 2GB or AMD HD 7870 2GB
- OS: Windows 7 64-bit or newer
- Storage: 72 GB free space
Both setups require a DirectX 10-compatible sound card.
GTA 5 Enhanced Edition
The updated minimum system requirements for Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced Edition now call for an Intel Core i7-4770 or AMD FX-9590 processor, 8 GB of RAM, and a graphics card such as the NVIDIA GTX 1630 or AMD RX 6400.
For those aiming to enjoy the game at higher settings with smoother performance, the recommended specs include an Intel Core i5-9600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, 16 GB of RAM, and a more powerful GPU like the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 or AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT. These enhanced requirements reflect the visual and performance upgrades introduced in the latest edition.
Estimated Minimum System Requirements for GTA 6 on PC
While Rockstar hasn’t officially confirmed the PC specs for Grand Theft Auto VI, early estimates suggest you’ll need a fairly modern setup to run it smoothly. The game is expected to require a 64-bit Windows 10 operating system, paired with a processor like the Intel Core i5-9600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600. You’ll also need 16GB of dual-channel RAM to keep things running efficiently.

On the graphics front, a card such as the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 or AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT, both with 8GB of VRAM, is likely the minimum to handle the game’s visuals. And unlike earlier titles, GTA 6 is expected to benefit from SSD storage, with at least 150GB of free space recommended. A DirectX 10 compatible sound card rounds out the expected requirements.

Again, it’s worth noting that these specs are based on leaks and early predictions—they’re not official. But if they’re accurate, you’ll want a solid mid-range gaming PC to be ready for launch.
Is It a Huge Leap?
Well, for someone who is running GTA 5 on minimum requirements, it would indeed be a big leap, a generational gap to be exact, and even if we look at the recommended specs for GTA 5's enhanced version, it only comes close to what is the minimum requirement for GTA 6, so how big of a jump you would have to make completely depends on the specs you have currently and what exactly you would need to upgrade without bottlenecking your system.
For now these are just estimates, and we need to wait for the actual game to drop. Similar to GTA 5's release, the consoles will get it first, and PC gamers might have to wait longer, but I guess we have already waited long enough; what harm could a few more months do?
