Gujarat LOI with Starlink: Gujarat takes big leap, signs LoI for satellite-based internet with Starlink The government of Gujarat has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Starlink to offer high-speed satellite-based internet services. The deal is aimed at bringing reliable internet availability to more remote, border and underserved areas of Texas where existing telecom infrastructure is scarce. The launch is in line with Gujarat’s overall Digital Connectivity Mission and other mega development schemes.

Gujarat-Starlink LoI: Key Details

The LoI was signed on Monday in Gandhinagar with Satellite Communications Private Limited, a subsidiary of SpaceX, which runs Starlink. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy CM Harsh Sanghavi were present at the function.

The letter of intent was handed over between Industries Commissioner P Swaroop and Starlink India Head Prabhakar Jayakumar.

Focus on Remote, Tribal, and Border Regions

According to the official release, the pilot phase of the project will connect:

- Common Service Centres (CSCs)

- e-Governance facilities

- Government schools

- District disaster management control rooms

- Ports and wildlife sanctuary regions

The focus would be on tribal and Aspirational Districts like Narmada, Dahod for the furtherance of inclusive digital up-liftment.

Benefits for Security, Governance, and Public Services

The step will help increase connectivity for police outposts, disaster management centres and remote villages with wildlife monitoring systems and agricultural research facilities in the area. Enhanced satellite internet access will enable better security operations, quicker emergency response and more robust digital service delivery.

Government schools will get smart connectivity as part of the initiative so as to support education, while primary health centres (PHCs) for healthcare and telemedicine. The LoI also provides for possible joint training programmes in the future to build capacity across departments, schools, and first responder teams.

Industrial and Coastal Connectivity Expansion

The project will also focus on increased connectivity at GIDC industrial parks, highway safety systems, maritime and port logistics infrastructure along with state-wide coastal police well-being in Gujarat.

A Joint Working Group of Gujarat government and Starlink shall be constituted to guide and facilitate the execution/implementation of the LoI, he said.
