AMAZON, an American multinational technology company with a significant reputation in the e-commerce industry, has now officially announced that it will integrate artificial intelligence to speed up services and reduce long distances between products and customers, as per the reports.
Stefano Perego, Vice President of Customer Fulfilment and Global Operations Services for the region of North America and Europe, reportedly threw some light on the various types of techniques with a special focus on transportation, which the company claims are the key area, particularly in mapping and route planning.
He also emphasised how important it is for people to use Amazon to find the products they need. According to Perego, "I think one area that we consider key in order to lower cost to serve is inventory placement."
"By now, I'm sure you're aware of the extensive range we provide to our customers. Consider how difficult it is to decide where to position an inventory unit. And to position it in such a way that we reduce the distance to fulfill customers while increasing delivery speed," he added.
The internet giant has also reportedly been concentrating on a "regionalization" drive to transport goods to clients from warehouses nearby rather than from elsewhere in the nation, according to the report. But in order to estimate which products will be in demand and where it is necessary to deploy technology that can analyse data and patterns. Artificial intelligence can help in this situation.
Similar to what its Prime membership service does, Amazon will be able to offer same-day or next-day delivery if a product is located closer to customers. In its fulfillment hubs, Amazon also uses robotics to help with tedious chores like carrying large items. According to the business, automation processes 75% of Amazon customers' orders.
In the meanwhile, Amazon has unveiled "Amazon Anywhere," a brand-new immersive shopping experience that enables consumers to purchase real-world goods through video games and mobile applications. Starting with Niantic's brand-new augmented reality game Peridot in the real world, the service extends Amazon's online store into the realm of video games and smartphone applications.
