Your Wi-Fi password is probably more important than ever right now in today’s interconnected world. Whether you’re repurposing an old laptop to act as a media computer or using it for a missed connection, struggling to remember an interminable string of letters and numbers that serves no purpose except keeping out the neighbour’s kid is infuriating.

Previously, you could look at the sticker on the router or reset the thing altogether. The good news is that the process is much simpler thanks to modern smartphones. In both Android and iPhone, you can now view saved Wi-Fi passwords on your phone itself, without the need to download any third-party app for that.

How to Find Your Wi-Fi Password on Android

1. Open Network Settings

- Start by launching the Settings app on your Android device.

- Select Network & Internet, then tap either Internet or Wi-Fi.

- On certain phones, this feature might be listed under Connections.

- You’ll be taken to a list of Wi-Fi networks available nearby and currently connected.

2. Select the Connected Network

Either tap the Wi-Fi network you’re currently connected to, or tap the settings icon beside it. This will take you to the advanced network settings.

3. Use the Share Option

- Look for the Share button.

- Android will ask you to confirm your identity via fingerprint, facial recognition or device pin.

- After the password has been confirmed, a QR code is generated and displayed on screen along with its readable password, sitting directly above it.

- You may type the password in on another device or even just scan a QR code for instant access.

How to Find Your Wi-Fi Password on iPhone

Apple further provides the facility to have a look at saved Wi-Fi passwords in system settings.

View Password for the Current Network

- Open Settings and tap Wi-Fi.

- Find the network you’re connected to and tap the “i” icon next to it.

- Tap on Password, then authenticate using Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.

- Your Wi-Fi password will now be visible.

View Passwords for Previously Connected Networks

- If you want to access passwords for older networks, go to Wi-Fi in Settings and tap Edit at the top.

- You’ll see a list of networks your iPhone has connected to before.

- Tap on any network, authenticate, and view the saved password without resetting your router.

Pro tip: If you’re an iCloud Keychain user, these Wi-Fi passwords will be automatically synced to all your Apple hardware signed in with the same Apple ID.

What You Need Before Accessing Your Wi-Fi Password

Make sure the following conditions are met:

- Your device must already be connected to the Wi-Fi network

- Device security is enabled, such as a passcode, fingerprint, or Face ID

- Change your Wi-Fi password occasionally to improve security, especially if many people have accessed it.
