How to Track and Recover Your Lost Mobile Phone in India
If your phone is lost or got stolen, you simply need to follow these steps; this will increase the chances of your smartphone’s recovery:
Step 1: Get a Duplicate SIM.
Visit your telecom service provider (Airtel/Jio/Vi/BSNL/Others) and request a duplicate SIM card with the same number.
Step 2: File a Police Complaint – Lodge an FIR at your nearest police station regarding the lost or stolen phone.
Now you can head to the Sanchar Saathi Portal and proceed to block your device.
Step 3: Register on the Sanchar Saathi Portal. Below is a quick guide, how?
- Go to the official website: https://www.ceir.gov.in
- Click on “Block Stolen/Lost Mobile”
Enter details including:
- IMEI number of the lost phone
- Police complaint number
- Aadhaar-linked address
- An alternate contact number
Once you’ve registered, the system alerts the concerned department, cybercrime teams, and telecom providers across the country.
Step 4: Let the System Work
If your phone is switched on and connected with a network—no matter same sim or new one—the system sends out alerts and attempts to trace your smartphone’s new location or user.
Please note that,
“The key is to report the matter quickly. Early registration helps the system track the phone before it changes hands or is smuggled,” says C-DOT.
