Five OTT platforms have been barred by the Indian government for not following digital content guidelines. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has taken down MoodXVIP, Koyal Playpro, Digi Movieplex, Feel, and Jugnu for streaming pornographic and adult content The move is in line with the Centre’s ongoing efforts to monitor digital media and ensure adherence to provisions outlined by India’s information technology and digital media rules, particularly as online content consumption skyrockets across all corners of the country.

Action Taken After Due Legal Procedure

The decision, taken following due process which involved consultations with relevant authorities and a detailed review of the content available on these platforms, has been made in larger public interest and to ensure national security. So far, the banned platforms have not issued any official response to the government’s action.

The government then intervenes when OTT platforms are hosting bad or illegal content breaking existing rules, Press Trust of India reported. The Ministry had been actively tracking online streaming services to check if they were following the digital media and IT regulations.
